Question: Has mark martin become nascar's brett favre?

(Posted by: Sue on 2010-02-12 11:55:03)

Bonus question: Do you think Martin will ever win a Championship? I am curious to know what the fans think. Because Martin and Favre both have retired and unretired many times...

I think he is more of the "Dan Marino " of NASCAR, he is great! But he seems alwasy to be a bridesmaid, and never the; well, you know. I am not a Farve fan by any stretch, but at least he said "I do " once! JMHO

No and No. Favre wins more than Martin... Favre has a SB trophy too!

No Mark Martin never really made an official statement that he was going to retire he was just going to run a limited schedule then when Hendrick came knocking Mark answered. 2007 Brett Favrce retired, cried, bid all his fans a farewell I cried with him. 2008 un-retired & cried because he couldn't get his way so he went to another team had a decent year retired again said his farewells, cried. 2009 Favrce wanted to play again joined up with the Vikings just to spit in the face of his loyal fans, he hemmed and hawed about playing till after training season was over then he jumped back on the field....had a great year and choked at the end. Still waiting to see the flood gates open and the tears come again. Sorry for the rant but I was a huge Favre fan (Lions fan first...no laughing) I once even drove to Lambeau field just to touch it since we could never get tickets. Now all I see is a traitor and a cry-baby. So to answer your question no Mark Martin is nothing like Favre, he's a stand up guy and like I said he never actually formally retired. Will he win a Championship that's hard to tell, first he has to beat Jimmie. > > >2007-2008 he retired from a full schedule to run a limited schedule. He never acutally left racing, talked about it, ran part time but never left. nascar.about.com/ od/ markmartin/ p/ mmartin.htm

Favre can only dream about changing his plans as much as Martin. No. Steffy, Martin said he was going to retire from full-time Cup racing at least 3 times. He had a monster farewell tour with Rusty Wallace. Rusty's been retired for over 5 years now. Martin did go back on what he said. Martin said he would quit racing full-time in Cup after 2004 and go race full-time in the Truck series for 2 years, after which he would retire. So far he's only actually cut back on full-time Cup racing once. I may have jumped the gun on "at least 3 times " but he has had numerous plans to cut back his schedule and so far has only done it once.

I guess you could say there is a simlarity. I've never seen a problem with a guy changing his mind. I couldn't disagree more with Steffy's answer. I think Favre is awesome!

Mark is the definition of NASCAR's Brett Favre. The only difference is the fans like Mark Martin and don't get mad when he announces he's coming back. BONUS: Mark Martin's not gonna get a title. He's too old now. He doesn't have enough time left.

It's my understanding Mark only officially retired once. Even then he didn't say he was gone from the sport for good; he said he was going to run a partial schedule, then move to trucks. He's still a great driver, he's still competitive, he works hard, and he doesn't whine and demand to be put ahead of his teammates. I don't get why people are still so ticked that he changed his mind. If he was crashing out a lot and obviously hanging in way past his prime, I could see it, but he's not. I don't know if he'll ever win a championship or not, but it would be great if he did.
