The chase format allowed Mark (with 4 wins) to have 500 points plus 10 points per win, or 5040 points. Tony and Jimmie are tied for second with 5030 points, and Denny and Kasey are tied for fourth with 5020 points.

He won more races this year (4) than anyone else in the Chase. 10 pts are awarded for each win

Because of the stupid chase. Mark Martin is good proof on how the chase is stupid and the traditional points system is the best. Mark Martin should be no where in contention for the championship. Tony Stewart dominated all season, and now watch him end up getting screwed out of the championship. I don't really care about Tony Stewart, but he surely deserves the championship.

B/ c he has the most wins you get ten bonus points towards the chase for each win I like to call this the "Kasey Kahne rule "

Because of his four wins this season. They reset to a base of 5000 points and ten bonus points for each win.

They all started out with the same amount of points (reset) and Mark has the most wins of the season of guys in the chase (with 4 which means 40 bonus points) (Tony is 2nd with 3 wins so 30 bonus pts)

He won 4 races giving him 40 bonus points. No one else in the Chase won more than 3. Kyle Busch won 4 races, but finished 13th and missed it. Martin has 5040 points.
